The Art of the Cowgirl Fellowship program will encourage and further arts and trades amongst western women, both celebrating and continuing tradition and inspiring innovation.
By establishing mentorship and investing in up-and-coming artists, the Art of the Cowgirl team will foster creativity and preserve traditional art and functional gear. In providing this opportunity, their hope is that age, location, and lack of funds will no longer be a limiting factor for those interested in pursuing art and artistic trades.
The Fellowship Program is the original dream and basis for the Art of the Cowgirl Event. The fellowship provides an opportunity for western artists to work with masters– a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn or refine their passion with some of the most talented makers in the business.
Whether it be a fine art, functional trade, or horsemanship, these fellowships will enrich, empower and educate while honoring our western heritage. The fellowship seeks to remove obstacles such as funding and access for up-and-coming artists, without the restriction of age or location.
- Master Artists are chosen each year by the Art of the Cowgirl Committee. Each Master will offer 1-2 weeks of teaching at their place for each recipient.
- Fellowship Recipients will receive supplies and materials, travel, room and board at the Master’s location, and travel expenses to complete the Fellowship. Travel to the 2022 Art of the Cowgirl event will also be funded through the program.
- Each Fellowship Recipient must complete a piece of work or complete the agreed-upon task at the conclusion of the Fellowship period. Recipients will donate an item to the 2022 Fellowship Auction. Recipients will also be required to complete Fellowships in same calendar year as award received and present work at next Art of the Cowgirl event.
- Recipients will be chosen by the Fellowship Selection Committee consisting of Art of the Cowgirl team members and the Masters by majority decision.
