Last weekend, the Working Ranch Cowboys Association held the 2022 West Texas Youth Ranch Rodeo in Amarillo, Texas. The next generation of cowboys and cowgirls gathered at Will Rogers Range Riders to compete in roping, branding, doctoring, sorting, trailer loading, and more.

These competitive events aren't just for show, they're real-life skills needed on ranches—skills that have been passed down from one generation of working ranch cowboys to the next.

"We included a youth rodeo in the 2021 West Texas Ranch Rodeo because ranching is a family business. What kid—including my own three kids—doesn't want to grow up to be a cowboy?" says rodeo producer Lane Provence. "The [WRCA] Youth World Championship in Amarillo was new in 2021, and we wanted to provide the youth teams another opportunity to qualify and compete in Amarillo."

Check out the top overall teams, and some action shots below.
