Most riders love flashy horses! The grulla color, also known as grullo, is definitely one of those. With their tan gray coat and wild primitive markings, they'll definitely catch your eye. Grulla Facts

  1. These horses are part of the dun horse group. Their coat color is a tan-grayish color. There is some variation amongst the color, including black dun, slate grulla, silver dun, blue dun, and others.
  2. Many will also have a black dorsal stripe and barring on their lower legs. Their ears will be dark tipped.
  3. The word grulla in Spanish means 'crane'.
  4. It's pronounced 'grew-ya'. Some will use the term grullo ('grew-yo') for geldings or stallions. The AQHA recognizes the term grullo when registering horses.
  5. There are a few different breeds of horses that come in this color. Only 0.7% of Quarter Horses are registered each year as grullo though.
