BFA Sells Em' High

November 19, 2020 marked a special day for the BFA (Barrel Futurities of America). At 5 o’clock on the dot, the renowned organization cracked off the inaugural BFA Select Barrel Horse Sale, held in Guthrie, Oklahoma at the Lazy E Arena. The sale was held in conjunction with the BFA World Championships at the Lazy E, lasting November 13 through the 22^nd. 

The BFA Select Barrel Horse Sale had a total of 108 outstanding lots, but one inevitably rose to the top. Epic Nic (hip #79), a 2019 palomino stud colt by Epic leader, out of SX Dr Peacharita, brought a whopping $170,000.00! This yellow colt was consigned by the Henry Family of 88 Ranch Performance Horses. 

However, this extraordinary accomplishment was no fluke. The colt was bred for greatness! His dam, SX Dr Peacharita, was the 2nd highest winning performer by the famous Dr Nic Bar. The great mare was typically jockied by Brian Wheeler of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The duo was a deadly combination throughout the course of their career. Together they earned well over $150,000 in the barrel pen. 

Then, there is the colt’s sire - Epic Leader. The 2008 grey stallion was a result of leading trainer, Kassie Mowery’s, favorite bloodlines (Confederate leader X Fire Water Flit). The stallion earned $170,000 in fully documented Equi-Stats earnings. He won many championship titles and set an event record of 15.034 at the BFA World Championships. By the end of 2012 Epic Leader was the 2nd richest futurity horse. 

To say that this colt is destined for greatness would be an understatment. There is something to be said about excellent breeding. The highly respected Henry family truly out did themselves with this consignment. We look forward to seeing the highly anticipated future of Epic Nic in the coming years.
