And so, the story goes: set on a long, dreamy stretch of the Gold Coast in the early ‘70s, Gordon Merchant’s obsession with building a boardie that could stand the test of time led him to deconstruct his favorite pair of jeans, while his wife, Rena, crocheted bikinis alongside him at their dining room table.
