As the granddaughter of Hall of Fame cowboy Cotton Rosser, Linsay Rosser Sumpter grew up working alongside her family in the rodeo business.  After graduating with an Agriculture Science degree with an emphasis in Communications from Cal Poly, she worked as a PR and Marketing Manager for the PBR before transitioning to intercollegiate rodeo coaching at Otero College in 2009.  While also maintaining her busy schedule, she is currently six credits away from completing her Masters in Communication degree from Southern Utah University.

In February 2022, she was approached by Sean Gleason of the PBR, along with Scott Davis and Bobby Mote of the WCRA, to become the Commissioner of the Women’s Rodeo World Championship—the largest women’s rodeo in the world with $750,000 in added money.  “I am honored that they chose me to be the voice for the women in the Western sports industry and that I have the opportunity to help advance women in the sport.”

Linsay feels strongly about the rapid expansion of opportunities for women in the sport.  “The WRWC wants to be the place where women of varying levels of experience feel included and can come to compete in the hopes of winning a world championship buckle. Giving all levels of competitors the opportunity for growth in their abilities and offering women a reason to stay engaged with the sport will help the industry.”

She continues, “Watching cowgirls who have dedicated their lives to roping finally get the recognition that they deserve as rodeo athletes is extremely gratifying.  I love sharing knowledge with student-athletes and I love helping the sport to evolve into a more equitable sport for female athletes.”
