Sarena Macias is a second-generation American citizen raised in a vibrant, Latin family. Her Abuelita (grandmother), Tias (aunts), and mother played a huge role in her upbringing, from how she spent her time to her values and personality. “I’ve been blessed to be raised by such independent and strong-minded women of color and it’s because of them that I am who I am, where I am, today.”
In 2017, Sarena Macias earned a B.A. in Public Relations & Advertising from Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. Despite identifying her college education as “the biggest obstacle she’s overcome thus far,” it led to one of the most rewarding moments of her career: revising Old Gringo Boots’ social media strategy.
“My first position after graduating was with a creative social agency, where I learned a lot of skills that I’ve been able to apply in my current role here with Old Gringo,” she says. “It’s been a fun experience testing different content styles, engaging with followers, and learning what our online community connects with the most.”
Though she admits to collecting career advice from her mother in her youth, Sarena now has her own advice to give. “Be you and always say thank you. A little gratitude goes a long way.”
