This year The Cowgirl Gathering is teaming up with Cowgirl Artists of America (CGA) to bring the work of Cowgirl Artists to the heart of the Ft. Worth Stockyards in an exhibition highlighting the talents of emerging and established cowgirl artists. The Cowgirl Gathering is a celebration of women who embody the spirit of the American Cowgirl, and the art show is a visual representation of that courageous spirit.

Megan Wimberley, the founder and CEO of CGA explains “There are so many incredibly talented female western artists working to represent the western way of life, those rugged and beautiful spaces, and the people and animals that live in them. When we bring these works to the public it enhances our understanding of the west and its inhabitants, adding untold stories and creating a more complete picture of the cowgirl way of life.”

Launched by Wimberley in the fall of 2021, CGA aims to empower cowgirl artists by providing educational resources, supportive services, a collaborative community and new opportunities for representation. The Cowgirl Gathering, owned by The American Paint Horse Association (APHA), hosted its first event in the fall of 2021. The event drew crowds to its timed event competitions, speakers, art and fashion show, and more. This year’s event is expected to be even bigger.

For both organizations teaming up made so much sense. With a shared vision of providing opportunities for cowgirls the two organizations are working to make the art show a yearly “must attend” event. In addition to the opportunity for cowgirl artists, the art show is also raising funds for the APHA’s youth scholarships and CGA’s ongoing programming and payouts for artists.

The Cowgirl Gathering Art Show is juried by Sarah Adcock, Associate Curator for the C.M Russell Museum. Prizes include Best in Show, Honorable Mention, and People’s Choice Award. Artists can apply through October 16th here.

The exhibition is held in the newly renovated APHA headquarters located at 122 E Exchange Ave Suite 420, Fort Worth, TX. The opening reception is November 10th from 5:30 - 8:00pm. The exhibition will run through November 13th, with artist demonstrations throughout the weekend.
