Grab a pair of denim

While any pair will work, we recommend a high-cotton blend like Wrangler Cowboy Cut denim, as it will provide your distressing the most structure and support. Vintage finds at thrift stores are also perfect for this DIY project!

Gather your Crafting Supplies

The sky is the limit when it comes to which tools work best for you. You'll want to start with a cutting board, meaning tape, scissors, a razor blade, tweezers, and sandpaper (the heavier the weight the better.)

Start Preparing Your Cuts

Remember, the goal is distressed denim and you can't go wrong with a cut. With that in mind, mapping your cuts can help you identify the look you are going for. First start by mapping where you'd like ripped holes or other distressed marks. Remember to start small, the rips will continue to rip as you wear them. If you're turning your denim into shorts, remember to account for the fraying and folding of the denim before you cut.

Time to Cut!

To begin distressing your denim, start by using your razor blade to make horizontal slits in the denim. Don't worry, these won't quite look like holes yet.

Grab Your Tweezers

Once you have your slits, you'll begin to use your tweezers to grab strands of denim and fray the wholes to your liking. This step can be tedious but will give you that perfectly distressed look. Pulling the hems will also give you frayed edges if preferred.

Time For Sandpaper

The sandpaper will give you that worn-in, distressed look you've been eyeing. Apply sandpaper anywhere, partially around your distressed marks for the perfect look.

Have Fun!

Grab a few friends and have fun with this DIY project! This project is the perfect way to embrace your unique style and breathe life into an old pair of denim. Remember, no two pairs are the same and there is no wrong approach!
