If you haven’t heard of Emperor (2020), get it on your radar.
The film was originally set for release in late March, but was postponed due to COVID-19.
Filmmakers haven’t yet announced the updated release date, its cast and crew promise a quality production.
Directed by Mark Amin and produced by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Reginald Hudlin, Emperor is based on the story of real-life slave Shields “Emperor” Green. The film follows Shields (Dayo Okeniyi) as he escapes slavery and heads north for freedom.
Familiar historical faces appear throughout the film, including Frederick Douglass (Harry Lennix) and John Brown (James Cromwell).
And, of course, there’s some good old Western action: gunfights, chases on horseback, wanted posters…you name it. The trailer features a glimpse of an in-saddle chase and shootout:
Keep an eye out for when Emperor (2020) hits theaters or comes to streaming services.
