Mark your calendars! The Extreme Mustang Makeover returns to the Will Rogers Equestrian Center in Fort Worth, TX, beginning this Thursday, September 8. For the last 100 days, dedicated trainers from across the country have been working with a randomly assigned untouched, wild horse to prepare them for competition.

Created and presented by the Mustang Heritage Foundation, the purpose of the Extreme Mustang Makeover competition is to showcase the beauty, versatility, and trainability of American mustangs.

Youth competitors were assigned yearlings and will compete in three in-hand classes: Handling & Conditioning, Trail, and Freestyle. Their combined score from the three classes will determine the Extreme Mustang Makeover Youth Champion!

Adult competitors were assigned horses between 3-6 years old. They will compete in three preliminary classes (Handling & Conditioning, Trail, and Mustang Maneuvers) which will determine the Top 10 competitors who will advance to the Freestyle Finals on Saturday night in Will Rogers Coliseum.

The Top 10 will enter the finals with a clean slate and complete both a Compulsory Maneuvers class and a Freestyle routine of their own design. The combined score of those two classes will determine the Extreme Mustang Makeover Adult Champion!

The Mustang Heritage Foundation helps find forever homes for thousands of these horses and burros each year. They are dedicated to removing these animals from BLM holding pens and placing them into homes and private care through innovative programs, events, and education. The Bureau of Land Management will be on-site with approximately 50 untrained wild horses available for public adoption, too!

Tickets are available for the Freestyle Finals on Saturday night via the Mustang Heritage Foundation website. If you are unable to join in-person for the Freestyle Finals, the event will be streamed live on Cowboy Channel+.

Non-finalist Adult Division horses will be available for adoption on Saturday, September 10th at 1pm. Finalist Adult Division horses will be available for adoption following the Freestyle Finals performance Saturday evening.
