  1. Lady Wentworth of the Crabbet Arabian Stud in Sussex, England began breeding her Arabian stallions to Welsh mares in the early 1900s. Others in England and North America also began crossing the two breeds.
  2. On average, these ponies are between 11.2 and 15 hands. There are four different sections of Welsh Ponies- A, B, C, and D. This has an influence on the Welara's size and look with some being stockier and others more refined.
  3. A Welara Sport Pony is a cross of a Welara and outside breed, such as a Thoroughbred. These crossbreeds are popular in many competitive barns!
  4. Many compete in jumper and hunter classes. You might also see the breed in three-day eventing, pleasure riding, and driving competitions.
