There’s something special about the fall season.

What better way to celebrate the changing of the seasons than by embarking on a fall trail ride. Without a doubt, fall is one of the best times of the year to go riding. The crisp air and spectacular scenery makes it perfect for going on a horseback adventure. Now’s your chance to get out of your backyard and explore one of these breathtaking locations!

1. Acadia National Park

Located in Bar Harbor, Maine, this destination is definitely worth the trip. It’s every trail riders dream! From stone bridges and historical carriage roads to wildlife and waterfalls, there’s too many stunning features to name.

2. Cuyahoga Valley National Park

You’ll find this trail riding spot in Northeastern Ohio. There’s 33,000 acres filled with waterfalls, caves, rivers, boulders, and farmland. Choose one of the many trails and catch a glimpse of the scenic railroad. Bring your own horse and set up camp at one of the many accommodations. October and early November will allow you to see the best fall foliage.

3. Great Smoky Mountains National Park

In Eastern Tennessee, this unique park welcomes horseback riders. You can bring your own horse or rent one. Carriage rides are also available. There’s over 550 acres of trails to explore. You’ll see historical sites, enormous trees, and an abundance of wildlife.

4. Bridle Trails State Park

Add Kirkland, Washington, to your bucket-list! Experience the changing leaves as you travel along 28 miles of horse-friendly paths. You’ll hear the crunching of leaves under your horse’s hooves when you go in the fall. Riders and horses are given the right-of-way, which means you don’t have to worry about your horse spooking over a bike or skateboard.

5. Shenandoah National Park

Travel to Northwest Virginia so you can enjoy fall trail riding the right way! Wooded paths, vistas, and waterfalls are just the beginning. There’s 180 miles of trails ranging from smooth and level to rocky and mountainous. Choose the path you feel most comfortable with! You can even take a guided tour.

6. Kanopolis State Park

Situated in Marquette, Kansas, this park is for the avid rider. The cool weather allows for an enjoyable ride through orange, yellow, and red leaves. This unique destination has wide open prairies and canyons that’ll amaze you!

7. The Green Mountain Horse Association

Woodstock, Vermont, is a must visit! You’ll enjoy the well-developed trails mixed with fields, forests, hills, and streams. The community is very horse-friendly. It is home to the oldest 100-mile competitive trail ride. Riders can follow marks and maps that take them on 5 to 15 mile rides.
