Life is crazy. It’s even crazier with horses. They’re indescribably amazing to own, but it is without a doubt, a huge responsibility. So how do cowgirls balance their own lives with horses?

Use a Calendar

Between your appointments and theirs, take the burden off your shoulders of trying to mentally remember everything. It’s an easy way to stay on track! For an even easier option, utilize your phone calendar to receive reminders!

Create a Schedule

Writing out and creating a schedule will help you to organize your time. The key to balancing life and horses is time management.

Give Yourself Breaks

In that newly created schedule, don’t forget to give yourself breaks! This will help you to avoid burn-outs and keep you motivated. It’s hard to fit it all in, but if you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t take care of your horse.

Tell Yourself it’s Okay

Not all breaks are going to be planned. Horses hurt themselves, some days you work late, it’s kid’s soccer season, etc., etc. Tell yourself it’s okay to give your horse and yourself some time off. Pushing yourself or your horse will lead to burnout on both ends. Life gets crazy and in the way sometimes- that’s okay!

Make Sacrifices

On the other hand, owning a horse and finding time for your horse takes sacrifices. It might mean waking up extra early to fit a ride in before work or not going out with friends at night to clean stalls.

It will take time to find what works best for you when it comes to life with owning a horse, but it’s worth it!
