A lot of western riders wear chaps! Not only do they complete your look, but they offer protection when on trail rides or working cattle. If you ride regularly, then you'll definitely want to invest in a pair. They can be tricky to fit, so make sure to measure yourself correctly. This guide will help!

Measuring for Western Chaps

In order to find the perfect pair of chaps, you'll need to take certain measurements of your legs. You should wear your normal riding clothes, including jeans and your cowboy boots. A second person should do the measuring for you with a soft tape. The tape should be comfortable on your leg, as this is how the chaps will fit.

Measurements to take:

  • Waist
  • Thighs
  • Knees
  • Calves
  • Outseam
  • Inseam

A back belt can offer a tighter more custom fit, but is optional.

The folks at Schneider Saddlery put together a video tutorial to help you get the perfect pair! Follow along.

Chaps are a great addition to your riding wardrobe. Finding the right pair makes all of the difference!
