It can be hard to get to the barn everyday and ride. If you want to improve your riding though, you'll need to keep learning and progressing throughout the week. The good news is you don't always have to be in the saddle. There are plenty of things you can do right at home, in-between your rides!

Become A Better Rider With These Tips

  1. Exercise and Stay Fit

It can be helpful to work out a few times a week. You should target your legs and core muscles. Try Yoga For Equestrians, which will improve your balance and stretch you out. When you get back in the saddle, your endurance and strength will be better than ever.

2. Read Horse Books

There are plenty of good resources out there! Grab a cup of coffee or tea and head to your favorite reading nook. You can spend hours upon days learning everything and anything about riding and horsemanship.

3. Watch Training Videos

Similar to the book idea, training videos can be extremely helpful. It's nice to see the concept or exercise performed by a professional. Make sure you jot down notes!

4. Journal

Write down your goals and any process you've made after each riding session. It will help you visualize and plan for your future success!

5. Join Some Online Communities

Facebook and other social media sources can be a good place to connect with riders. You can ask questions, post for critiques and watch clips of other riders at all different levels. Remember though, there's a good and bad side to the internet. Take it with a grain of salt.

One of the best ways to become a better rider is to actually be in the saddle more, but that's not always possible. So when you can't make it to the barn, try some of these ideas!
