Lindsey Thornburg was raised in Aspen, Colorado and went on to study philosophy in Santa Barbara. While attending design school in Los Angeles, she created her first dress collection.
In 2006 she began designing her eponymous collection, deriving inspiration from her vast collection of Pendleton blankets. Lindsey released her first full ready-to-wear collection for Fall/Winter 2010. She continues to add a selection of unique pieces to her collection seasonally. In addition, the curation of vibrant imagery each season gives life and visual content to the garments.
Sourcing the finest materials and manufacturing in the downtown New York atelier, Lindsey Thornburg is committed to quality and creating a local community. Our focus is on producing heirloom pieces that will last many lifetimes.
A New Yorker by way of Aspen and Montana, designer Lindsey Thornburg is only too familiar with an unforgiving winter. A dedication to staying warm and being unique has led to the creation of her line of outerwear.
The idea behind her eponymous cloaks was born after a trip to the Peruvian highlands which sparked an interest in indigenous textiles. Armed with fresh inspiration from her travels, nostalgia for crisp Colorado air and a mass of Pendleton blankets, Lindsey created what would become her signature cloak collection in 2008. Building on the huge success of the cloaks, the line has since expanded to include full collections.
Lindsey has been collaborating with Pendleton for the past 7 years and is the first designer in the history of the company to have been allowed to cut into their blankets. Pendleton Woolen Mills is the oldest blanket manufacturer in the United State sand produces Native American and American Southwest blankets out of their Oregon mill for both apparel and ceremonial use since 1863.
The cloaks have proved very popular with celebrities such as Blake Lively, Kate Hudson, Rihanna, Drew Barrymore and Meryl Streep. The brand has a select loyal following from across the US and Europe and has carved a secure niche market in high end resort towns, such as Aspen and at Vail-based Gorsuch.
Each Lindsey Thornburg cloak is crafted with care in her Chelsea atelier in Manhattan.
