Nine time GRAMMY-winner Sheryl Crow will headline Nashville’s July 4 celebration, which will include six acts in concert on two stages at Ascend Amphitheater and The Green at Riverfront Park, the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp announced today. Let Freedom Sing! July 4 in Music City presented by Dr Pepper is a free, family-friendly event that also showcases the GRAMMY-winning Nashville Symphony Orchestra and one of the largest fireworks shows in the country.
This year’s diverse line-up pays particular homage to Nashville’s strong indie and alternative scene and features Erin McCarley, Andrew Combs and Ruby Amanfu, who will open the free concert at 5 p.m. by starting her set with the National Anthem. Also sharing the bill is breakout country duo Maddie & Tae. Crow will headline the concert, followed by the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, which will be led by Associate Conductor Vinay Parameswaran, accompanying the fireworks show.
Sheryl Crow is a nine-time GRAMMY winner who has sold more than 35 million albums around the world, has performed duets with musical luminaries, such as Sting and Mick Jagger, and has been nominated for an additional 27 GRAMMYs. She has released eight studio albums (seven charting Top 10, four of them platinum-plus), a quadruple-platinum greatest hits collection and a Christmas album. Her most recent album, Feels Like Home, captures the sound of a great and established artist enjoying a kind of fresh start. It features songs on which Crow collaborated with her longtime guitar player and frequent co-writer Jeff Trott (with whom she co-wrote such past Crow classics as “If It Makes You Happy,” “My Favorite Mistake” and “Every Day Is A Winding Road’), as well as such Nashville songwriters as Chris DuBois, Luke Laird, Natalie Hamby and Chris Stapleton, among others. Crow has a combined 40 Top 10s on the Billboard Hot 100, Adult Top 40, Adult Contemporary, Mainstream Top 40, Triple A (with the most No.1 singles among women in the chart’s 17-year history) and Hot Country Songs charts, and now Crow can also count a Top 20 solo country single to her long list of accolades.
Maddie & Tae
Maddie & Tae boldly introduced their debut single “Girl In A Country Song” shortly after signing with Dot Records and penned each of the eleven tracks on their debut album Start Here. The Platinum-certified “Girl In A Country Song” soared to No. 1 on the Country radio charts, making them only the third female duo to peak their debut single at No. 1 in the history of the Billboard Country singles chart. The gender-flipping video garnered over 31 million views and scored the duo their first-ever award: CMA Video of the Year. The pair, from Texas and Oklahoma, respectively, are currently nominated for two ACM awards: Vocal Duo of the Year and New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year. Receiving critical acclaim from NPR, Entertainment Weekly, The Washington Post and Glamour, among others, Maddie & Tae have appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, TODAY, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and most recently on Live! with Kelly and Michael, where they performed the third single from their album “Shut Up And Fish.” Maddie & Tae wrapped their first headlining Start Here Tour last fall, having previously toured with Dierks Bentley and Lee Brice.
