The rumors were true! A Paramount Network exec has confirmed that Matthew McConaughey will star in a Yellowstone spinoff.

President and CEO of ViacomCBS Chris McCarthy shared with the Hollywood Reporter this week that the Oscar-winner will be helming his own series. The news comes as Yellowstone rumors have been running rampant over past weeks regarding the future of the show with Kevin Costner.

McCarthy didn’t have any updates on the Costner drama, but he did reiterate that the series “wouldn’t be what it is today without Kevin, and we hope that that stays for a long time to come.”

However, he noted that no matter what happens with Yellowstone, McConaughey will move forward with his own Dutton spinoff. He did not share any further details about the project nor did he say if it will be a prequel or sequel.

As for Yellowstone, its fate remains murky. Part 2 of Season 5 was supposed to premiere this summer, but it seems production is at a standstill. Cole Hauser even confirmed filming has yet to begin.

The Matthew McConaughey spinoff isn't the only addition to the Yellowstone universe we have our sights set on. 1883: A Bass Reeves Story is currently in production, and is based on one of the most famous heroes of the American frontier. Believed to be the inspiration of The Lone Ranger, he captured over 3,000 outlaws without getting injured during his days in the Wild West. Read all about it HERE.
