It is no surprise to see a cowgirl wearing many hats. And Meghan Gates is no exception to this! Ranch wife, mama, homesteader, and now, the author of a cookbook.

Mrs. Gates recently found herself enthralled in becoming self-sufficient in providing her own food for her family- a.k.a. homesteading.

“Growing and cooking our own food has not simply been a way to live healthier; it’s a way to slow down, learn skills that have fallen off with new generations, connect with this beautiful place God has given us to live, and truly appreciate the satisfaction that comes with providing for your family,” she explains on her website.

It’s a practice she has been working at and learning from for years. “We have always been around cattle, but this whole homesteading thing was new for the both of us [her and her husband, Cody],” further elaborates Mrs. Gates.

And she’s ready to share her knowledge with others by sharing her very own cookbook!

Named Foundations of Soups, “This ecookbook features 15 recipes from my own kitchen, as well as what to look for when shopping for ingredients, and the universal soup process.”

Some of the recipes include:

  • Green Chile Pork Stew
  • Chicken Coconut Curry Soup
  • Ham Split Pea Soup

Each recipe has been tried and true from her very own kitchen. Talk about yum!

Even better news, it is free to download! You can try all of these recipes yourself, maybe even give homesteading a try!
