For the first time in 8 years, Miranda Lambert has topped Billboard’s Country Airplay chart with her solo, “Bluebird.” Her last solo to top the charts was 2012’s “Over You.”

Behind “Bluebird”

“Bluebird,” written by Lambert, Luke Dick and Natalie Hemby, is as timely as they come. The uplifting ballad looks toward the light ad happiness in your life. However, the solo was written over 18 months ago, before the pandemic thrust the country in to darkness. The track, on her album “Wildcard” will have you joyfully singing along.

Lambert and her fellow writers new “Bluebird” was special from the minute Luke Dick sent Lambert an excerpt from Charles Bukowski’s “Bluebird.” In an interview with Billboard, Lambert recalled the beginnings of “Bluebird,” written just three days after her secret nuptials to Brendan Mcloughlin.

“So that same day we were writing that song, I’m bursting at the seams: “I have to tell y’all a secret!” Luke had texted us a group text. We’re always on a thread. And he sent those lines [from Charles Bukowski’s poem “The Bluebird.”] He was like, “maybe there’s something to this. It really spoke to me. Did it speak to y’all?” I said, “Absolutely.” So we went in that day knowing we were going to write “Bluebird” or figure out if we could. You know, those are some big lyrics to try to build around, and so we wanted to make sure we did a good job of that. It’s always fun writing with them. Sometimes it’s hard and when it gets hard is when we know we’re about to get something good. When your skin starts crawling because you can’t think of it and you kind of want to leave the room is when something comes.”

Sing Along To “Bluebird”

Although “Bluebird” is No. 1, fans will not be able to sing along to the hit with Lambert in person anytime soon. Lambert said to Billboard, “It’s the No. 1 song and I don’t get to share it with them. I miss the fans and sharing this moment with them, but when [touring] comes back, I know it’ll still be there. I can’t wait to hear the crowd sing along. That’s one thing I’m really looking forward to.” For now, we will belt “Bluebird” along with the radio.

Congratulations to our former cover girl Miranda on her exceptional song, “Bluebird”!
