There's so much to love about Foundation Quarter Horses. These "old style" horses have a unique history. They have earned the trust and respect of ranchers because of their stocky built, work ethic, and versatility. Foundation Quarter Horse Traits

  1. They're short and stout- usually no more than 15 hands, but a hefty 1,200 pounds.
  2. These horses have muscular bodies with strong, dense bones.
  3. They have small ears, wide set eyes, and a strong jaw.
  4. Their back is short and they have a deep barrel.
  5. A broad chest and strong haunches are common.
  6. Foundation Quarter Horses are known for their versatility. Historically, they were the all-round horse that could work cattle, plow the field, and pull a wagon.
  7. They have a quiet and willing nature.
  8. Once trust is earned, most are willing to do anything for their riders.
  9. They're easy to train and intelligent.
  10. These horses come in a range of colors from bay and black to grulla and cremello.
