Fifteen of the upcoming stars of rodeo– the rookies– gathered together in Fort Worth, Texas, this past weekend to try their hand at $100,000. It was the 2nd Annual Resistol Rookie Roundup presented by The Cowboy Channel

"The Resistol Rookie of the Year is so important to us. The PRCA rookies are the future of our sport” said Ricky Bolin, General Manager of Resistol Hats in a press release. “We are happy the Rookie Roundup was such a great success last year and we can move forward to making this an annual event. It is great that the format is designed to educate and elevate them as they begin their journey towards a professional career in rodeo.”

All fifteen contestants competed Friday night. Then, the top eight advanced to Saturday, with the top four going for a final round the same night.

Outside of the Cowtown Coliseum, Resistol and the Cowboy Channel walked contestants through interviews and media training to further help with their rodeo careers. As they succeed in the sport of rodeo, interviews will be expected.

They brought in mentors for each event. Madison Outhier, the 2021 Resistol Rookie of the Year for breakaway roping, introduced the young ladies to the Cowboy Channel and walked them through their interviews on tv. She was the first-ever Rookie of the Year for breakaway roping, a nod to how much the event has grown in the past years.

It has led to Quincy Sullivan’s success at the Resistol Rookie Roundup.

It was a blink and you’ll miss it run for Quincy. She walked away $100,000 richer after a three-second run. The quickest paycheck of the weekend! A big win is nothing new for the 2020 National High School Rodeo Team Roping Champion.

She not only competed in the breakaway but in barrels at the Roundup, too. She’s a jack of all trades! She is vying for the Resistol Rookie of the Year in both events, one of the few ladies to do so.

“I try to stay busy,” says the New Mexico cowgirl. “I think it helps with my confidence doing more than one event because if one’s not going right, I always have the other one to back me up for it.”

She traveled from the U.S. Team Roping Championships Finals where she was competing all week to make it to the Round Up. She won the inaugural USTRC Total Feeds Open Ladies Breakaway Championship just a few days earlier.

As for her favorite event, it's hard for her to choose. She leans towards roping but jokes that it's whichever event is going better for her.
