Retired racehorse cowgirl magazine

Recently, Fallon Taylor competed in barrel racing with her off-track thoroughbred, Cowboy Swagger, at the 2019 Thoroughbred Makeover. The Retired Racehorse Project puts on the event every year. They’re responsible for helping thousands of ex-racers move onto second careers.

The event took place in the beginning of October at the Kentucky Horse Park. With over $100,000 in prize money, there are hundreds of horses competing in over 10 different disciplines. Barrel racing is one of the many western types to be offered. Some of the others include competitive trail, ranch work, and freestyle. The versatility of these horses is amazing!

Thoroughbreds have definitely proven their worth in the western world! The Retired Racehorse Project (RRP) has helped thousands of riders find their dream off-track Thoroughbred. They’re busting stereotypes that suggest Thoroughbreds don’t belong in western disciplines.

You can find Thoroughbreds in:

  • Barrel Racing
  • Pole Bending
  • Ranch Work
  • Competitive Trail
  • Roping
  • Cutting
  • Reining
  • Western Pleasure
  • And more!
