Tornado season puts fear into many people. The safety of their family and animals is at jeopardy. A safe room is designed to offer protection against storms like tornados and hurricanes. You can rest more comfortably knowing that you have a safety plan in place!
A Horse-Friendly Safe Room
Mary Ellen Hickman on Facebook shared her safe room designed to hold horses, dogs, cats, and people. She resides in Oklahoma where tornados are a real concern!
She has already had to use this above ground building. Luckily, everyone was safe and happy until the storm passed.
It’s located right off her main barn for easy access. Each horse can be placed into one of the ten tie stalls.
It’s rated to withstand an F5 tornado. You can find more information on the necessary requirements at FEMA.gov.
It was constructed back in 2014 at $300 per lineal foot with specs of 8′ tall, 8″ walls and a 4’X7′ storm door with 3 dead bolts. The inside extras are an additional fee. Prices have likely increased over the years though!
If you live in an area where tornados are common, then this building is a great investment! It can protect your family and beloved animals.
