As George Jones would say, the races is on. The 2020 Kentucky Derby is just mere days away and we are so ready! Although usually held on the first Saturday of May, like everything in 2020 the Derby has changed this year. The “run for the roses” is now being raced on the first Saturday of this month, September 5th.

Churchill Downs & The Kentucky Derby

Called “The Greatest Two Minutes In Sports,” the Kentucky Derby is a staple in the horse community. 2020 marks the 146th legendary race. According the Churchill Downs, the official location of the Kentucky Derby, “it is a great American tradition that has survived depressions, wars, pandemics and myriad changes in our country, large and small.”

In a statement on their decision to run this year, Churchill Downs so eloquently said, “We know there are some who disagree with our decision to run the Kentucky Derby this year. We respect that point of view but made our decision in the belief that traditions can remind us of what binds us together as Americans, even as we seek to acknowledge and repair the terrible pain that rends us apart.”

Predictions

The odds are in, and these 3 year olds are neck and neck. Tiz The Law is the foremost favorite (3-5) according to Jody Demling, who has nailed the prediction for 9 out of the past 11 years. Tiz The Law’s odds were also improved this week as the horse at his heels, Art Collector, has pulled out of the Kentucky Derby with a minor foot issue.

With Art Collector down and out, Honor A.P. (5-1) is the next in line to defeat Tiz The Law. But these are not the only two in the running. Legendary trainer Bob Baffert has two young horses in the race, Authentic (8-1) and Thousand Words (15-1).
