From the 1960s to the 1990s, Tammy Wynette was one of the most influential country stars. She is known for her songs, “Stand by Your Man,” “D-I-V-O-R-C-E,” and “I Don’t Want to Play House.” Her songs were empowering, speaking on the tribulations of wives during this time.
Tammy Wynette joined Loretta Lynn in breaking into the male-dominated country music field. To this day, the two are attributed to paving the way for women country singers.
