Before we begin, let's cover why you should use wood pellets as stall bedding. Yes, you heard me right, “wood pellets.” The same ones you use for your woodstove fireplace.

Wood pellets have more absorption than most other bedding materials, which makes for drier stalls! They are easy to clean because less gets caught in your pitchfork, meaning less waste! What we all love to hear! They also tend to store better for longer!

Before you run down to the store and buy some, you have to know how to use them correctly!

The easiest way is to place the bag of wood pellets in your stall, cut a slit and fill the bag up with water. It takes about 10-15 minutes for the pellets to soak. Once they are soaked, they will break down into sawdust- a comfy bedding for your horse to lay down in!

These pellets are also known as “pine pellets” or “horse bedding pellets.”
