Washing your horse's tail doesn't have to be a long process. With just a bucket of water and some shampoo, you can remove dirt and grime from their tail. This quick method is perfect for those with limited time or when warm water isn't available. It's important that you regularly groom their tail and check for lumps, ticks, mites, and anything else unusual.

Washing Your Horse's Tail

For this bucket method, you'll need a 5 gallon bucket filled with warm water and a cup. You can use either horse shampoo or human. Some like to follow up with leave-in conditioner.

The horse's tail needs to be completely submerged into the bucket. Use your cup to get the top of their tail wet. You can work in the shampoo with your fingers. This'll give you the opportunity to feel for ticks or bumps. Once finished, squeeze out excess shampoo with your hands. You can then dip their tail in the bucket of water to remove the rest.

This method is perfect when you're at a show and need to clean their tail quickly. It can also be helpful in the cold when warm water isn't available or you don't want to get the rest of their body wet.
