Alyssa Scott delivers a project filled with songs that explore her past and inner emotions in a fun, upbeat album. She lays it all out on the table, and then can turn around and have fun on the very next track. We have been loving “Ten Years” and we can’t wait to see y’all enjoy it too! We got the opportunity to catch up with Alyssa about the inspiration behind her debut album and what it means to her. We are also excited to announce she is the newest member of The Highway Women!
Alyssa loved the sound of acoustic albums like The Marfa Tapes and knew she wanted that sound on her own album. She says, “I thought that was the coolest thing! Raw/natural sound. What we got on the first take is what we got because that was the magic of it. I wanted to give something stripped down so my audience could really get a feel for my story.”
She chose songs that describe her journey over the last ten years the best. “I have books of songs I’ve written but these 13 stood out to me. So it’s really a collection of songs that are really important to me,” she says. “They are vulnerable, fun, sad, make you want to have a fire, and it means the world to share all of these with my audience.” We love the raw sound on this album and look forward to the possibility of even hearing the rest of her book of songs later on!
Alyssa hopes “Ten Years” creates a sense of hope, enlightenment, and joy. With everything being so produced because of new technology, it creates a magical experience when a band can sit and play together in a room. “I hope people listening can sit back, relax, sip on hot cocoa and enjoy the stories in these songs. I hope they capture more of who I am as a person and hope they can find connection through they song(s) they are drawn to,” she shares.

The fun part about this album for Alyssa is that it is recorded on one ribbon mic in the middle of the room. “When you listen you will feel like you’re sitting right there in the room with us. There was no real editing, which I think is so neat! You will hear banter, talking, and laughing which I wanted to keep in there to even further the connection with the audience. All the musicians I chose to have in the album are close friends that I find connection with through music, so that was a special thing for me which I hope people can feel that family feel while listening.”
She is so excited for everyone to hear her debut! “I’ve now put out quite a bit of art that has been important to me, but this one I’ve been most excited about because it’s real and it’s me. There’s no doubt in my mind that putting “Ten Years” out is a good thing to do, because for some reason I feel there is at least one song on this album that will reach someone. And that is worth it!”
